This type of music has been cheated in the not so far away past by it's fans and more importantly by it's musicians. I'm speaking of Rock & Roll inspired punk music. Some call it Rockabilly but I don't think that's apprioate. To me, Rockabilly is much more of a disciplined art form where your are constantly trying to pay homage to a beautiful musical past. The music the De'Villes play is no doubt inspired by the existence of places like Sun Records in the fiftes and sixties. The very fabric the AMERICAN DREAM OF ROCK N ROLL was stitched on. But the band will inevitably fall into a category whether it be "Rockabilly", "Alt Country" or whatever other psuedo-moinkers the cretins at Maximum Rock N Roll are coming up with these days. Again, this is where I feel this music has been cheated. People don't want to hear original takes on original Rock & Roll anymore. They want there Rock spoon fed and dressed up in a fantastic costume. The soul of the De'Villes music is from dirty bars that are haunted by long dead blues musicians. As real and honest as they can be they weave lonely songs of hearts splitting in two and well crafted songs of turning out and having fun for the sake of fun. The band plays these songs well and overall has a great understanding of the past meets present and in the end the songs come off as fun, Rock & Roll that was meant to be played the way the De'Villes do it. Thanks to the very fine folks at MOTHERBOX records you can get your very own copy of "Switchblades & Heartaches" by contacting them directly.
